Continuing the series Where is my QTP in UFT, this post is focused on explaining the changes, relocation and enhancement in different Panes at interface.
Have a look at menu changes – UFT 11.5 – Where is my QTP in UFT (menu)
Pane Changes in UFT
Available Keyword – Available Keyword pane in QTP is Toolbox pane in UFT. The Toolbox pane in UFT displays the test objects and functions available to the action or component that is currently in focus. It enables you to view the available test objects and functions, and also enables you to drag and drop them into your action or component. When you drag and drop a test object into your action or component, a step is inserted with the default operation for that test object. When you drag and drop a function into your action or component, a call to that function is inserted. (Click to enlarge the images)
This is same as we have in QTP, if you drag and drop an object into the action, it will add the step in action with the default action for the object. if you drag and drop a function into action, it will add the statement to call the function and the comment for the function.
You must have noticed the icons for Test objects in object repository has also changed a bit.
Data Table – Its Data pane now in UFT. Same as Data table in QTP, the Data pane has the characteristics of a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, enabling you to store and use data in its cells and also perform mathematical formulas within the cells. You can use the GUI testing Data pane, or you can use any Microsoft Excel (.xls) file.
Debug Viewer – In UFT we have Debug Panes, which includes separate panes for
Breakpoints
Call Stack
Watch
Local Variables
Console
The Information and Missing Resources panes have been merged into a single Errors pane. Resources is now Solution Explorer and To-Do is in Task Pane.
The General tab is now in a much enhanced Properties pane which enables you to view and define general properties for your application area, including its description and any add-ins associated with it. It looks like you can modify the associated add-ins list in UFT and it allows too, but it does not. You need to restart UFT and select add-ins at add-in manager at start up in order affect the changes.
Not sure why this has been kept enabled to make the changes, however it pops you the message that you cant make the changes.
The Test Flow pane is Canvas in UFT. The canvas provides a visual representation of the actions in the test flow. Its very friendly and has all the functions that you do in your test script. here you do via a visually represented diagram. You can actually drag drop the action up and down to make the right test flow. Right click the action and access to the controls like running and debugging from a particular action. Call to existing or new action etc.
I will put the details on working with Canvas in a separate post soon. Don’t miss it, if you haven’t subscribed to received daily updates, I recommend to Subscribe to Automated360 by Email
